THE February 2018 winner of the Southside & District Sports Award is Phil Healy of Bandon AC following her remarkable recent success at the World Indoor championships in Birmingham, which resulted in her finishing 11th overall in the 400m world indoor rankings.
In her run-up to this outstanding achievement, Phil has set an Irish 300m record, ran the world indoor qualifying standard, defended her national 400m indoor title, ran a new 400m personal best of 52.08 and had been named European Female Athlete of the month.
Now Phil’s main goal is the European Athletics Championships in Berlin in August. She has secured the 200m and 400m standard to date – so all her preparations will be focused around those competitions.
