TWO of Skibbereen’s biggest sports clubs are joining forces to hold a giant fundraiser at the end of the month.
Skibbereen RFC and Skibbereen AFC will hold a race night on Friday, October 27th, at the rugby club’s headquarters with proceeds from the night to be divided between the two clubs and help with the ongoing costs of running both clubs.
‘We decided that two heads are better than one and that both clubs would be best served by holding a joint fundraiser that will appeal to a larger audience,’ explained Shane O’Neill of Skibbereen AFC.
‘The soccer club and the rugby club are important in Skibbereen and the surrounding areas so we’re hopeful that we’ll get a good response to this and a big crowd will turn out on the night.
‘The finance raised will help both clubs because we both run fairly big operations now and there is a lot of costs involved, from balls to bibs to training equipment to travel costs to games, etc.’
Ahead of the race night that promises to be full of noise, colour and action, you can buy an owner, horse or trainer and you can also show your support by taking an ad in the programme. On the night you can also bet on the races, adding to the excitement.
