PlayUs GAA app given resounding endorsement from Graham Canty
THE brainchild of his fellow Bantry Blues clubman Mark O’Donovan, the PlayUs GAA app has been given a resounding endorsement from Graham Canty.
O’Donovan, also Coaching Officer with the Carbery Board, and Canty were both at Croke Park for the official launch of the club-focused app that has been designed to facilitate clubs to search for and arrange challenge matches.
The idea behind the mobile app is to make it easier for coaches and clubs to organise challenge games. O’Donovan felt that the task of organising challenge games, blitzes and tournaments could be made much easier using modern technology.
‘This helps facilitate coaches and mentors to organise challenge games, blitzes and little tournaments that can help their team to prepare for championship games and league games without the over-burden of all the administration,’ Canty explained.
‘Coaches want to coach, players want to play, coaches love coaching, players love playing games and I don’t think anyone likes the admin side of phoning up asking are you are available for a game. What this app does is a take a little bit of that admin out of it and utilise technology that is there already.’
PlayUs GAA was devised in collaboration with the GAA Games Development Department in Croke Park and developed by Galway-based company, App Design. It is available to all GAA, LGFA and Camogie clubs, catering for all age groups and grades.
Coaches seeking to organise games can simply enter the proposed game details and the app then sends out invites to appropriate teams within a designated distance. PlayUs will be a very useful tool for coaches and will provide more games for club players.
The PlayUs GAA team includes Mark O’Donovan, Graham Canty, Ruairi Deane and Majella McCarthy. For further details, contact Mark O’Donovan on 086-1750764 or see www.playusgaa.com.
