Huge honour for world champion kickboxer from Bantry
WORLD champion kickboxer Lily de la Cour has been crowned the 2015 Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Year.
The Bantry woman (21) was presented with her award by Republic of Ireland soccer legend Tony Cascarino at the gala awards event at the Celtic Ross Hotel on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 250 people.
A former West Cork Youth Sports Star award winner, de la Cour is a most worthy winner of the 2015 overall award as in December she fought her way to the top of the world – and her biggest ever career win – when she won the senior WAKO World Kickboxing Championships -50kg category at the Citywest in Dublin.
This is the most prestigious competition that de la Cour (21) has ever won and she is now ranked the number one senior kickboxer in the world at the -50kg category.
After winning the2015 Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star of the Year, de la Cour commented: ‘I’m absolutely delighted. This is a huge honour and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way.’
