RUNNERS in Cork will have a unique opportunity to run on the runway at Cork Airport as the 5km run, part of Spar’s Fitlive series, takes place for the third time on Friday, November 17th.

Suitable for all levels of fitness, the event will see competitors grace the runway at midnight on the Friday.

‘For one special night, the Cork Airport team will grant a rare opportunity for participants to run our runway,’ said Cork Airport managing director, Niall McCarthy.

‘The event always proves very popular and it’s a great way for the runners and indeed our passengers of the south of Ireland to see the airport like never before.

‘We welcomed 2,000 participants last year, with similar numbers expected again. This year’s participants will be joined and motivated by fitness coach Karl Henry and Irish Olympians Derval O’Rourke and Mick Clohisey.

‘Health and wellbeing are very important to the Cork Airport team and we are delighted to be a part of such a superb initiative. I myself am very much looking forward to the excitement and atmosphere that this event always brings.’

The run at Cork Airport is one of the healthy initiatives that make up the Spar FitLive.ie programme and provides families of all fitness levels the opportunity to improve their health and fitness.

Those interested in taking on the tarmac for this special midnight run, can enter on Fitlive.ie. Entry costs €25 and includes a goodie bag, refreshments and fruit, race chip timing, crossing line video and a special event t-shirt.
