THE 2015 Westlodge Hotel Carbery GAA Hurler of the Year will be announced at this Friday night’s All-Stars awards.
At the Westlodge Hotel this Friday, the 15 hurlers who have made the historic first Westlodge Hotel Carbery Junior Hurling All-Stars team will receive their awards, and adding more excitement to the occasion, the inaugural Westlodge Hotel Carbery GAA Hurler of the Year will also be named.
Three players have been shortlisted for this prized award – Denis Murphy was a key player on the Clonakilty team that won the West Cork JAHC this year; St Oliver Plunkett’s Conor O’Driscoll was, again, an inspiration for his team in this year’s championship; and Mathúnas’ Kevin O’Donovan is one of the bright young talents of Carbery hurling and he played a major role in his club’s run to the divisional final.
Also, there were three sets of brothers included in the 2015 Westlodge Hotel Carbery Junior Hurling All-Stars team that was, and no surprise here, led by champions Clonakilty who have seven players on the team. Beaten finalists Mathunas (4), Dohenys (2), St Oliver Plunkett’s (1) and St Colum’s (1) are also represented on the team. The three sets of brothers selected are Mark and Sean White of Clonakilty, Kevin and Gearóid O’Donovan from Diarmuid Ó Mathúna and Alan and Denis Murphy of Clonakilty.
