Ephie Fitzgerald oversees his first win as Cork ladies football manager
Cork 2-21
Tyrone 1-3
ORLA Finn scored 1-9 as Cork picked up their first win of the Lidl Ladies Football League Division 1 campaign against Tyrone in Mallow on Sunday afternoon.
Following defeats against Mayo and Kerry in their previous two league games, reigning champions Cork got the defence of their title back on track in this round three game, as they overpowered the Ulster side.
Before half-time sub Orla Finn grabbed the headlines with her second-half scoring exploits, Cork raced into a commanding 1-10 to 0-1 lead by the break – Aisling Hutchings scoring the game’s first goal after 10 minutes.
Points from Ciara O’Sullivan (0-3), Aine T O’Sullivan (0-2), Briege Corkery (0-2) and one point apiece from Hutchings, Emma Farmer (free) and Rena Buckley left Ephie Fitzgerald’s team in complete control.
Cork made a number of half-time changes including the introduction of Kinsale’s Orla Finn, and she went on to score 1-9 of her side’s 1-11 second-half total – Shauna Kelly and Laura Fitzgerald added the other points for the home side.
Grainne Rafferty scored 1-1 for Tyrone late in the game while Niamh O’Neill scored a point in each half.
Next up for All-Ireland and league champions Cork is an away league trip to Dublin on Sunday, February 28th.
Cork scorers: Orla Finn 1-9 (2f); Aisling Hutchings 1-1; Ciara O’Sullivan 0-3; Aine T O’Sullivan, Briege Corkery 0-2 each; Emma Farmer (1f), Rena Buckley, Shauna Kelly and Laura Fitzgerald 0-1 each.
