A DUNMANWAY man won two gold medals at the World Powerlifting Championships held in the United States.

CIT student Ross O’Connor showed all his power and strength in Virginia as he took first place in the Strict Curl on 57.5kg in the 125kg Junior Division. He followed this up in the Bench Press when he secured gold finishing on 122.5kgs.

O’Connor, a second year Automotive Management and Technology student, was honoured for his exploits at CIT recently as the college hosted a reception for the West Cork man and Kerry woman Rachel O’Mahony, also a CIT student, who won two gold medals at the world championships too.

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) President, Dr Barry O’Connor, hosted the reception, offered his congratulations and said he was very proud of their achievement.

‘Ross and Rachel are excellent ambassadors for CIT and a terrific example to all students,’ he said.
