Mid Cork junior B football glory for Inniscarra
Inniscarra 1-13
Kilmurry 1-9
INNISCARRA, beaten finalists last year, won the Ballincollig Credit Union Mid Cork junior B football championship title at Macroom in a very competitive final played as the curtain-raiser to the A final.
Both clubs had strong teams on duty, and Inniscarra had clearly benefitted enormously for their semi-final with Iveleary, a tie which took three games to decide.
Kilmurry scored first and when Inniscarra recovered to lead the western team fought back to level at 0-3 each after 15 minutes. After a low scoring second quarter Inniscarra led by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break and they increased their advantage on the resumption with two further points. Again, Kilmurry fought back and when Denis Dullea fired home a goal in the 45th minute, Kilmurry were in front by a point, 1-7 to 0-9.
Inniscarra were quickly back in front, their outstanding full forward Dan O’Connell finding the net at the other end. They did not lose their control subsequently and emerged deserving winners by four points.
