Plenty of talent on show in John Kerins U20 Cup draw in West Cork

Cork 0-19
Kerry 1-16

CLONAKILTY proved a more than capable host for the John Kerins U20 Cup draw between Keith Ricken’s Cork and Jack O’Connor’s Kerry on Wednesday night.

The opening round game in this U20 development league competition that also includes Galway, Dublin and Kildare was a cracker at Ahamilla, as a rare inter-county game was held in West Cork.

The home side led by four points at half time, 0-11 to 0-7, but Kerry hit back in the second half and a goal from Michael Potts saw them lead 1-14 to 0-15 with ten minutes left.

In a frantic finale Cork dug deep with points from Blake Murphy and Cathal O’Mahony (who scored seven points from play and nine in total), and it was an injury-time Jack Murphy point that earned Cork a draw in a packed Clon.
