CILL Mochomóg minor hurlers secured the club’s first trophy by winning the Division 3 West Cork Minor Hurling League final in Kealkill recently after beating Laochra Óg 0-14 to 1-07.

Cill Mochomóg opened the scoring with a point from Conor Doody and went on to dominate the opening period with five unanswered points from frees by Tadgh Cronin. Laochra Óg pulled back two as half time loomed but Alan Kelleher extended Cill Mochomóg’s lead to 0-7 to 0-2 just before the break.

Laochra Óg came storming into it after the restart and reduced the deficit to two points with an early goal. Cill Mochomóg responded with four points on the trot from Conor Doody and Cian Cronin with two from placed balls by Tadgh Cronin.

Three Laochra Óg points from play brought them right back into contention, a point from Cill Mochomóg’s Tadgh Cronin failing to stem the revival as Laochra Óg tacked on another two to leave the score 1-7 to 0-12 with five minutes to go.

However, two points from play from the impressive Conor Doody sealed the deal and saw Cill Mochomóg run out winners by four points.

Presenting the league trophy to Cill Mochomóg captain Michael Cronin, on behalf of Rebel Óg West, Rory Doody praised both amalgamated teams for the fine sporting contest and the high standard of hurling produced.

For Cill Mochomóg, this was a super team effort with every player on the squad putting in a huge shift, as they needed to do to overcome a dogged Laochra Óg team that fought to the end.
