PÁIRC Uí Chaoimh’s hosting of the inaugural Cork Super Cup this summer could be worth in the region of €6 million to the local economy.
It was announced last week that current Scottish Premiership champions Celtic will travel to take on Cork City FC in Páirc Uí Choimh on July 8th, and this will be a boost to Cork GAA in a year that sees no concerts held in their home ground
It’s believed that the Cork Super Cup will be worth in the region of €150,000-€200,000 to Cork GAA, depending on whether the event will sell out, which seems likely.
‘This is another opportunity to share our stadium with the world, and help show Cork as an excellent destination for sports tourism. We are fortunate that one of the world’s most successful soccer teams has agreed to return to Cork, and we have been engaging with Cork City FC to ensure that both sets of fans really enjoy the experience. Every event such as this generates funding streams that we can reinvest in the stadium, and in our own games, so everyone wins,’ Cork GAA CEO Kevin O’Donovan said.
Tickets went on general sale, including a limited number of family tickets, via www.corksupercup.com and Ticketmaster last Friday.
