BANTRY ABC boxer Soni Gaffney has his sights set on national success following his recent win in the Munster championships.

The stylish 14-year-old won his Boy 4 Cork County title in the 44kg category in March before going on the land a Munster title against a formidable opponent from Waterford on April 6th. Next up for Gaffney will be a trip to the National Stadium in Dublin to compete in the All-Ireland Championships on the weekend of May 24th.

Fellow Bantry boxer Jack Desmond will also be in action in the national tournament that pits the best boxers from across the entire island of Ireland against one another. The extremely-talented Desmond is the Cork and Munster champion in the Junior 2 age group.

Soni’s sister Rosie has also tasted plenty of success inside the squared circle in recent weeks. The 11-year-old has won both the Cork and Munster titles in the Girl 1, 54kg category and she looks well-placed for a crack at a national title.

The Kotarja sisters, Brikenna and Tina, have also given the Bantry Boxing Club reason to be cheerful having both landed provincial titles this season.

The boxers would like to thank the Cork and Munster Boxing Boards as well as the volunteers and clubs involved with organising all of the tournaments.

They are coached by Andy Kerins and Andrew Desmond.
