CONSTRUCTION is set to start this side of Christmas on the new Clonakilty Distillery which is set to create up to 40 jobs when it opens next summer.
Local developer Michael Scully confirmed work on development at the Waterfront will start next month and will be finished by next July.
Speaking to The Southern Star, Mr Scully insisted a civil dispute being taken against him in a commercial court in Poland, by Irish investors relating to the sale of a shopping centre, has no impact at all on the development in his home town.
Mr Scully is currently being sued in Poland by Irish investors for €6.8m.
He said the case which has been ongoing for a few years, would be concluded in the coming months which he was ‘looking forward to.’
Clonakilty Distillery will produce both whiskey and gin and will also feature a visitor centre, tasting room and café.
‘I’m very glad to be investing in Clonakilty. This is going to be very positive for the town, welcoming between 40-50,000 visitors a year,’ said Mr Scully.
