A COMMUNITY group in Wisconsin has raised €1,200 for a cancer support house in Bantry.
La Crosse, a city in western Wisconsin, is twinned with Bantry, and last month the La Crosse-Bantry Friendship Association held a traditional Irish music event to raise funds for Bantry Arc.
The ‘Coulee Houlie Céilí’ fundraiser included Irish music and dance, a silent auction, Irish food and fun.
The event raised a similar amount for a coffee sanctuary in Wisconsin called ‘Sacred Grounds’, which provides a safe space for vulnerable people to meet and share experiences.
‘The Coulee Hoolie Ceili is a unique celebration to bring a little Irish culture to La Crosse and raise some money for a good cause,’ said Association president Lynn West. ‘Building a strong global connection between La Crosse and Bantry is at the heart of our mission and our Coulee Hoolie Céilí fundraiser plays a key role in achieving that goal and also brings awareness to social issues that both of our cities share,’ she added.
