WHEN SuperValu Dunmanway owner Andrew Healy was approached about co-sponsoring the ‘Christmas in Dunmanway 2016’ CD,  launched on Thursday, December 1st, little did he think that he would also end up singing on it too.

‘Now there are risks that I take in life, having been around the block a few times,’ quipped Andrew.

‘So the first thing to do here was to halve my exposure: Get someone to sing with me and, hopefully, if I’m quiet, I mightn’t be heard!

‘Hence, a quick phone call to Martin Maybury in the Parkway Hotel, fellow sponsor, and now my partner in music. That phone call was quick so as to give him no time to say no – mission accomplished!

‘So down we went two days later, like two nervous teenagers singing for the auditions for The Voice, hoping we wouldn’t get through to the next round. But credit must go to Liam and Val in Carrig Sound for their professionalism in calming us down, encouraging us and, surprisingly, making us sound like a duet that had performed before!’

Also featured on the CD, along with musical director Paula O’Donovan, are Bernadette Milner, Joe Higgins, Francis Deasy, Marie Hayes, Sharon Mawe and Evan Murray.

‘The rest of the singers on the CD are just fantastic, far more talented than us two,’ said Andrew. ‘My honest opinion is that anyone that buys it will not be disappointed and, of course, it’s for a fantastic cause, Dunmanway Community Hospital.’

‘At SuperValu Dunmanway, as one of the sponsors of the CD, along with the Parkway and Carrig Sound, we really feel strongly about it selling and raising the funds for the hospital. It’s a place where a lot of loved ones are cared for in there by the fantastic team and a place that a lot of us could end up in yet, and what care that would be for us to receive.

Andrew Healy has also agreed to sponsor the grand piano for another Friends of Dunmanway Hospital fundraising event, ‘A Victorian Christmas’ concert, to be held at St Patrick’s Church, Dunmanway, on Friday next, December 9th.
