AN Innishannon riding club is to honour a former member who passed away earlier this year.
Sarah O’Sullivan from Castletownbere was an active member of the South West Riding Club based in the Skevanish Equestrian Centre in Innishannon.
Sarah would have been 32 in May and lost her battle with cystic fibrosis last February. The club is holding a Cystic Fibrosis Charity Show & Fun Day on Sunday July 3rd to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
‘Sarah was a very active and well-liked member of our club, representing the club not only locally, but also nationally on championship level,’ said Grit Milisch, secretary of South West Riding Club. ‘Despite her illness, she never complained and was always positive and her love for horses and the sport was everything to her,’ she said.
‘In her honour we decided to hold a charity show in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and when we told her last December about our plans she was very keen to attend, but unfortunately she passed away before she could. She is sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.’
The members of the club have set up a charity page at JustGiving.com and have raised over €1,000.
‘We have set ourselves a target of €5,000 and we’re quite determined to raise the money for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. We will leave the page open for a year to maximise the amount we can raise,’ added Grit.
The Charity Show & Fun Day will include dressage, showjumping and novelty showjumping as well as loads of spot prizes on the day but Grit is keen to stress that the horse riding is only for members of AIRC due to insurance.
