MULITIPLE award winner, Sophie Healy Thow from Kinsale was appointed a Generation Next Ambassador by Nissan Ireland last week.
The 17-year-old secondary school student was presented with her Nissan car in Kearys Nissan Cork in recognition of being in the words of James McCarthy, CEO Nissan Ireland ‘passionate, committed and working hard,’ and being one of the ‘best and brightest on the road to success.
Sophie is already was part of a team that won the Google Science Fair and the European Union Young Scientist in 2014 and the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2013. She is also a recognised speaker on Food Security at global events such as the Thought for Food Conference in Lisbon and We Day in London, where she was interviewed by Sir Richard Branson. She has also spoken at The Web Summit and the recent TEDx event in Dublin.
Sophie is also a passionate proponent of the effort to solve world hunger and recently had a lunch meeting with Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation in Brussels.
Sophie is currently taking a short break in West Cork before going to the London International Youth Science Forum to act as a staff counsellor.
