BALLYDEHOB-based taxi man John O’Brien had the pleasure of ferrying A-lister Saoirse Ronan around West Cork last week.
John told The Southern Star that it is the second year in a row that Saoirse Ronan, the star of Brooklyn and Ladybird, and her mother, Monica, had come to West Cork for a break from her busy schedule.
Although they drove down from Dublin by car and used it to take day trips to Castletownbere, Allihies and Kenmare, they did call on John to take them to The Fish Kitchen in Bantry – which is one of Saoirse’s favourite restaurants in West Cork – one night last week.
‘She has a lot on at the moment, so she was glad of the break. She loves West Cork and finds the scenery stunning,’ said John, who described both Saoirse and her mother as being ‘very down to earth, normal, chatty and friendly.’
Saoirse posed for a photograph with John and said she had no problem with him posting it on Facebook. At the last count there were more than 250 likes, which is a measure of Saoirse’s popularity – and John’s too.
Of course, Saoirse isn't the only celeb to be spotted in West Cork! We did a round up of the well-known faces frequently spotted in the area here.
