A LOCAL election candidate has welcomed the cancellation of a meeting by former presidential candidate Gemma O’Doherty which was booked for a parish hall in Schull.
Ms O’Doherty, a founder of ACI – Anti Corruption Ireland – had booked Schull Parish Hall for a meeting at 7.30pm for Thursday night, April 11th.
But Vanessa O’Sullivan, People Before Profit (PBP) local election candidate for the Skibbereen area, rejected the attempt of ACI to address the public in Schull.
She said that while the name ‘Anti Corruption Ireland’ sounds nice ‘on the face of it’ it is hiding the ‘sinister truth’ about the party’s policies. ‘It is another racist group trying to get a foothold in our country,’ she told The Southern Star. ‘I completely reject their actions in our area and will fight to see a genuinely inclusive Ireland.’
Former presidential candidate and ACI founder O’Doherty has claimed recent New Zealand terrorist attacks were a ‘false flag operation’ and not a blatant racist attack.
‘The idea that the racist murders of peaceful citizens in a mosque in New Zealand was a set-up by authorities is a dangerous mentality,’ said Ms O’Sullivan. ‘Firstly, it rejects the notion that Christians can commit such vile atrocities and secondly, that a state would stage a murder of its own citizens to spread fear so as to have more control. It’s utter nonsense,’ she said.
She added: ‘People Before Profit, alongside residents of Schull, will seek to ensure that their town and West Cork continues to be an inviting, inclusive place to live.’
It is believed that the Bishop’s palace in Cork was contacted by concerned West Cork locals about the impending ACI meeting in Schull Parish Hall, and the meeting was subsequently cancelled.
ACI’s website states it wants an end to ‘uncontrolled immigration’ and the repatriation of ‘illegal/criminal non-nationals’ and wants Ireland to leave the ‘UN migration pact’. It also promotes ‘family and pro-life policies’ and seeks to ‘promote Irish sovereignty, preserve neutrality and prepare for Irexit’. Ms O’Doherty is also anti-vaccination.
