ROSSCARBERY Convent, one of West Cork’s finest period buildings, is for sale for offers in the region of €400,000.
A listed building, constructed in the early 1890s, it was vacated by the Sisters of Mercy around two years ago, who are now selling it.
John Hodnett, of Hodnett Forde, says the property offers a unique opportunity, with considerable interest in the building, including from the UK.
The building is adjoined to Mount St Michael secondary school on the eastern end with a clearly defined boundary. The school is not included in the sale.
However, included in the package is three acres of land, gardens and a terrace of five cottages which present a range of options to buyers.
‘The gardens are beautiful and extensive and there’s also a tennis court on site.
‘It is a listed building so its future uses will have to be sympathetic to that, but it does offer a development opportunity.
‘Ideally we’d like to see it being used for something like further education and we’d be expecting offers of around €400,000,’ he said.
Stand out interior features include the impressive staircase, tiled hallway, one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and stained glass windows.
