After his colourful trip to the Basque country last Autumn, chef Neven Maguire’s Food Trails is back on the TV, and this time Neven has visited West Cork.

AFTER his colourful trip to the Basque country last Autumn, chef Neven Maguire’s Food Trails is back on the TV, and this time Neven has visited West Cork.

During the seven episodes, Neven also visits counties Longford, Limerick, Dublin, Wicklow,  Wexford, Tipperary and Kilkenny.

In the second programme Neven follows a food trail inspired by seafood. Curious to learn about sustainable fishing, Neven heads out to sea with the Murphy family of the Shellfish De La Mer brand, based at Dinish Island in Castletownbere.

Using traditional pot-fishing methods, the Murphy family fish for brown crab and show Neven how it’s done. Back at the harbour, Neven is taught how to dress a crab fresh from his haul.

In every successful chef’s kitchen are a good set of knives, which leads Neven to Ballylickey to meet master cutler Rory Conner. Specialising in hand crafted knives, Rory makes a unique oyster knife especially for Neven. Neven’s final stop is Blairscove House and Restaurant near Durrus, where head chef Ronald Klotzer shares a tempting recipe for grilled turbot on the bone with sea beet and dijon mustard hollandaise. Neven’s Irish Food Trails is sponsored by Bord Bia.

The programme will be broadcast on RTÉ1 on Wednesday January 25th at 7.30pm.
