West Cork company, Modern Botany, has opened a new outlet in Schull, increased staff numbers, and announced it plans to export its products to the UK, Germany and the USA.

WEST Cork company, Modern Botany, has opened a new outlet in Schull, increased staff numbers, and announced it plans to export its products to the UK, Germany and the USA.

Since 2016 – when the company launched its signature 100% natural multi-tasking oil – its projected sales figures doubled.

The company’s CEO, John Murray, said they were so encouraged by the success of the oil that they decided to launch their next unisex product, a 100% natural but fragrant antiperspirant and deodorant that is aluminium and paraben-free.

The launch of the new range follows on from the opening of the company’s new shop and office at Main Street, Schull.

The venue is now HQ for a company that employs three full-time and three part-time staff members.

According to John, both he and his partner, Simon Jackson, believed there was a gap in the personal care sector for a natural deodorant that actually works.

Long-term, he said their aim is to elevate the personal care sector by stripping back the amount of products that consumers use.

John said the company’s success to date has been supported by the Local Enterprise Office in Clonakilty, as well as Enterprise Ireland. And he attributed the doubling of their sales figures to ‘word of mouth’ testimonies, as well as recommendations from pharmacists around the country.

John also confirmed: ‘We plan to trade in the UK this year; then we will target the German speaking territory in the fourth quarter of 2018; and focus on the USA early in 2019.’
