THE launch of Macroom GAA fundraiser, Strictly Come Dancing, was held at the Castle Hotel.

The names of the contestants and partnerships were announced and the enthusiasm of the dancers and of the capacity audience present for the launch augurs well for the venture.

The Macroom Strictly will be held on one night at Rochestown Park Hotel on Saturday, October 19th next, and is being promoted jointly by Macroom GAA, Macroom Juvenile committee and Macroom Ladies’ Gaelic Football Club.

GAA chairman Joe Carroll welcomed the dancers and supporters, and outlined the big increase in club membership in recent years, the growth particularly of the ladies’ section, and the need for improved facilities for the boys and girls, men and women. Money is needed, hence the fundraiser which will also act, the chairman hoped, as a unifying bond for all sections in the club.

The chairman thanked the organising committee which has worked so hard to get the venture up and running, and expressed the wish that everybody will derive great enjoyment out of the night in Cork.

The dancers and pairings are: Declan Kiely and Kate Brady, Don Creedon and Aoibhe Murphy, Rhys Hopkins and Kasia Smolich, Andrew Hegarty and Sarah Horgan, Jack O’Riordan and Meadhbh Carroll, Diarmuid Holland and Sinéad Foley, Danny O’Keeffe and Cllr. Eileen Lynch, Tom Bradley and Orla Deasy, Killian Lynch and Grace Buckley, Caleb Dinneen and Katie McSweeney, Ethan O’Gorman and Eimhín O’Mahony, Mark O’Sullivan and Claire Cronin.

Serious dancing practice has commenced for the 24 dancers involved and all will have reached perfection by mid-October!
