SIR – Whether you are one of the 42% who voted yes, or one of the 24% who voted no, or the 34 % who did not vote at all, to repeal the 8th amendment, you should take a good look at the abortion legislation which Simon Harris is working really hard to get through the Dail without delay.
Responsibility for the health service has taken a back seat while Simon dismisses with disdain the amendments which looked to ensure that babies will not be aborted on grounds of gender or disability, or at full term on unspecified grounds, with no legal requirement for the provision of pain relief to the baby before its life is ended.
Simon has actually stated that he wants to encourage women to seek abortion early, but offers nothing to support women to keep their babies, promote adoption, or address any of the reasons why the pregnancy is perceived as a crisis. Isn’t that the pits?
I would urge all readers to take a good look at the proposed legislation, and if you are unhappy about any aspects of the abortion service which you will be paying for, speak with your TD and let him know.
Love and kindness to the people of West Cork.
