THE children of Kealkil NS made it to the final of the ‘Song for ‘16’ at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and gave a performance that made their parents and teachers proud.
Principal Darragh Carey said: ‘The children wrote the song, and their teachers helped put it to music, and together they ended up with something that has a really good sound, something of which they are justifiably proud.’ Since their return from Dublin, the children have been asked to perform the song, The Land That Welcomes All, many times.’
Although slightly ‘rappy’, the song has a very upbeat and joyful chorus, which has earned it more than a 1,000 hits on Facebook and inspired people to leave many supportive messages.
There has been a lot to celebrate at the school recently, including the announcement that the fifth class year students had won the Bantry Bay Port Company ‘Best Overall Project’ award for ‘A Day in the Life of a Cruise Liner Visiting Bantry Bay’.
Everyone at the school also enjoyed an open day celebration in March to mark the completion of a €310,000 investment.
‘There is a tremendous positive feeling in the school, which makes for a good learning environment,’ said the principal, Mr Carey.
