WEST Cork-based renowned actor Jeremy Irons has launched an impressive art collection at Cork University Hospital.
Comprising mainly Irish art, the collection has been donated by artists and grateful patients on an entirely voluntary basis.
The ‘per cent for art’ scheme has contributed a number of works and it has not been a burden on the public purse.
The collection includes work by internationally recognised artists like William Crozier, whose painting was donated by gallerist Angela Flowers, Dorothy Cross and Cecily Brennan.
Local artists also responded generously to a call from artist Majella O’Neill Collins when she first started canvassing. She found that West Cork and Sherkin-based artists were beyond generous from the very beginning of the project.
CUH Arts aims to enhance the hospital environment through the arts by promoting a sense of well-being. Activities include art exhibitions and choral performances.
