UISCE Éireann (formerly Irish Water) working in partnership with Cork County Council, is replacing over 1.4kms of aged water mains in Caherdaniel outside Bantry.
These essential works are due to commence at the end of October and are set to be completed by mid-December.
Once completed, customers in this area will enjoy an improved water supply with less disruption due to bursts and leakage.
Commenting on the project, programme manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin said the works are part of a significant investment programme to improve the water network in Cork, prioritising investment where it is needed most and enabling these communities to thrive.
‘We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these essential works.’
Traffic management will be in place in the form of a road closure on the L4711 in Caherdaniel. Detailed information, including diversion details will be communicated locally, however, local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
This project is being carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned disruption. The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these are being replaced.
Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project or check out the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website for regular updates.

TEXT ALERTS FOR BUSINESS
UISCE Éireann (formerly Irish Water) recently launched their new awareness campaign promoting a text alert service designed to provide important updates to business customers in Cork.
The service, supported by Cork Chamber, ensures that businesses stay in- formed about planned or unplanned water outages, as well as drinking water restriction advisories, such as boil water notices. The new text-based service enables business customers to receive local updates. To sign up to the text alert service,
businesses can visit www.water.ie/business-updates.
Once signed up, businesses will receive timely alerts in the event of network issues that may cause a water outage or affect water quality lasting four hours or more. Uisce Éireann says it will assess the issue and provide affected businesses with relevant information, including the anticipated duration of the outage.
