THE horrific scenes from the Middle East since last weekend have put the relatively minor issues of health and housing in Ireland into context for many. The coverage of a Co Laois mother begging for the safe return of her missing daughter was heart-breaking.
And it matters not from which side of the border her daughter was snatched. Kim Damti’s mother Jennifer’s admission that she had not brought up her children ‘to hate anyone’ resonated with many.
It is more than a pity that we live in such a hate-filled world, where age-old allegiances, be they religious or political, can be manifest in such terrifying and horrific events.
There can be no justification, by either side, for the murder of innocents.
