A UCC student has set up a GoFund Me appeal to raise money to provide Christmas presents and entertainment for children and their parents at the direct provision centres in Clonakilty and Macroom.

This is the second year that Billy Donovan, a third-year UCC student has raised funds for those living in direct provision centres.

‘With the money that is raised, each of the 400+ children across the county will receive a present on the day,’ Billy told The Southern Star.

‘We will be in Clonakilty and Macroom for the celebrations on Saturday December 14th where there will be food and drink, entertainers, crafts and lots more available. All the funds raised will go to cover the costs of transportation to and from the centres and to cover the costs of the food and entertainment for the families.’

Billy and his friends have set up this campaign in order to help the children and their parents celebrate the holiday season and to enable them to feel part of a community event.
