THE restaurant at the Dunmore House Hotel has been recognised for its delicious food with a prestigious award from the Restaurant Association of Ireland (RAI).

The hotel’s Adrift restaurant was chosen as Cork’s best hotel and guesthouse restaurant by the RAI at a special awards ceremony recently. ‘This is a wonderful accolade for a small family-run hotel,’ owner Carol Barrett told The Southern Star.

‘We have a very dedicated team here in Dunmore House and this award is testament to the hard work and to the wonderful produce we have here in West Cork.’

Carol, whose grandparents first welcomed guests to Dunmore House back in 1948, is proud of the insistence their team of eight local chefs have when it comes to creating their menus with only local produce.

‘We have our own organic garden and our team can just step outside and gather our fresh vegetables and herbs. After that, we only use and source local West Cork produce and we know that this make a difference to our menus.’

Well-known chef Kevin Aherne of Sage in Midelton is working closely with the team at Dunmore House to continually enhance their menu.

‘Kevin, along with our chefs here at Adrift, are constantly working to create new and delicious additions to our menu and we have great plans for the future when it comes to our food and our restaurant here in Dunmore House,’ Carol said.

Peter Barrett, Carol’s son, has also recently returned to work in the family business having working and studied in the Far East and the US.

‘We are delighted that Peter has decided to come and work with us, he is now the fourth generation of the family to work at Dunmore House and we are extremely proud of this connection with the hotel and with the local community where we live.’

Carol also has high praise for the local food suppliers, who continue to supply the four-star hotel with some of the best food in the country. ‘We are very lucky to have some the best beef in the country right on our doorstep,’ Carol said.

‘And, of course, with the Atlantic Ocean only steps from the hotel, we are able to provide our guest with the freshest fish and seafood,’ Carol added.

‘With fresh seafood and shellfish from Union Hall, meats from Clonakilty craft butchers and organic produce from the surrounding West Cork countryside, the team at Dunmore House Hotel look forward to serving delicious, fresh and creative food for many years to come.’
