IN November 2017, a sub-committee of the Doheny GAA Club took on the task of raising funds for the club, organising the hugely-successful Strictly Dunmanway Dancing, a first for the town, which raised €23,000.

Following on from the success of Strictly, and to add some variety, they ran a ‘Stars in their Eyes’ night, which saw eight local acts perform on stage at the Parkway Hotel to a packed house, raising €10,800, which was split between Doheny GAA Club and the Dunmanway Playground Redevelopment Project.

The organisers thanked the performers for both events, their sponsors and local businesses, and especially the people of Dunmanway for their support.  On behalf of the Stars in their Eyes committee, Michael Farr, Doheny GAA Club president, presented a cheque for €5,400 to both the Doheny GAA Club and the Dunmanway Playground Redevelopment Committee.

The Doheny GAA chairperson, Mary Maybury, thanked the sub-committee for all their hard work and commended them on another successful venture. On behalf of Dunmanway Playground Redevelopment, Deirdre Kelly thanked the committee and the club for such a generous donation.  It was agreed that the new playground will benefit many members of the community.

Both Strictly and Stars in Their Eyes were great community events for Dunmanway and the committee is already making plans for a 2019 fundraiser, which will take place on Saturday, November 16th – save the date for another great night’s entertainment!
