THE Southern Star, in association with Clonakilty Chamber of Commerce, is inviting the people of West Cork to ‘Meet the Candidates’ for the 2016 general election in the Cork South West constituency at 8pm on Thursday next, February 18th, at Fernhill House Hotel in Clonakilty.

Following the success of the inaugural such meeting ahead of the 2011 general election, which drew a full house to Fernhill, a large attendance is again expected.

To apply for tickets, phone 023-8858910 or email your name and telephone contact details to [email protected]

The meeting will be chaired by Con Downing, editor of The Southern Star

Each of the candidates will be given two minutes to set out their stall before questions will be invited from the audience.

If you have a question you want us to put to one or more of the candidates on the 18th, please email it to us by Monday next, February 15th, to [email protected] with ‘Meet the Candidates’ as the subject line.

An extra dimension since 2011 is that, throughout next Thursday’s meeting at Fernhill House Hotel, Southern Star journalists will be active on social media, using the Twitter hashtag #GE16SS and relevant comments will be fed into the audience discussion.

And if you can’t make the debate, then follow us and join in the conversation by using the Twitter hashtag.

A selection of questions from the ‘at home’ audience can be directed at the candidates so be sure to tune in next Thursday night and get on the ‘Twitter machine’.

In the meantime, video profiles of all of the eleven candidates declared so far in Cork South West may be viewed in the special Election 2016 section of The Southern Star website – see www.southernstar.ie/election2016, or simply see our Election 2016 tab at the top of our home page.

Each of the 11 Cork South West candidates have been filmed by the Star, outlining their manifestos and local issues, so if you are undecided regarding voting, our candidate videos might help you make up your mind.
