CONTROVERSIAL TD Mick Wallace’s name will be on the ballot paper in Ireland South when the European elections are run on May 24th.
The member of the Independents 4 Change group said last week that he hadn’t quite decided whether to run or not.
But it was confirmed this lunchtime, at the close of applications for candidates for the forthcoming elections, that Deputy Wallace had in fact put his name forward, for the Ireland South constituency, which includes Cork.
And the Irish Times is reporting that the decision was made over the weekend in West Cork.
According to Mr Wallace, he made up his mind during a trip to Cape Clear island with other members of the Independents 4 Change group.
‘We had a weekend of solitude,’ fellow TD Clare Daly told the newspaper, adding that they got a ‘great welcome’ from Cape islanders.
Ms Daly has decided to run in the Dublin constituency for Europe.
