FOUR people were plucked from the water in an air-sea rescue operation after their boat capsized off the West Cork coastline near Kinsale this (Saturday) evening.
Just after 5pm, the RIB they were in capsized and the four – three adults and a four-year-old child – were thrown into the water. Luckily, all were wearing life jackets and the sea conditions were good at the time, albeit with a fresh breeze blowing.
The Kinsale RNLI lifeboat was launched and the Irish Coast Guard’s Rescue 117 search and rescue helicopter provided support. A Cork Sea Safari vessel was one of the first at the scene and rendered assistance.
On shore, Gardaí and volunteers from West Cork Rapid Response were on hand, if needed. However, through somewhat shaken by the ordeal, it is understood that none of the four rescued people required hospital treatment.
