Nobody was injured in a fire that broke out this evening at the Carbery Group's main headquarters at Ballineen.
Firefighters were this (Sunday) evening fighting an outbreak of fire at the Carbery Group’s main headquarters in Ballineen, West Cork. It is understood that the fire started on the roof of the alcohol distillation plant soon after 5pm.
Units of the Cork County Fire Service from neighbouring towns were quickly on the scene and brought the fire under control soon afterwards. Nobody was injured in the blaze.
A senior member of Carbery management told 'The Southern Star' that very little damage was done to the plant and executives are holding a special meeting there this evening as they start their own investigation into the cause of the fire outbreak.
Production in the alcohol distillation plant, which is operating at about 65% of peak capacity at this time of year, has been suspended indefinitely and alternative arrangements will be made by management for this section of the business.
