FRUSTRATED staff at the Aperee Living Nursing Home in Belgooly which is set to close this week are still in the dark regarding their redundancy entitlements.
Speaking to The Southern Star, Patricia Doonan, activities co-ordinator, said they still have no signed-off paperwork or received any communication from the company.
‘We are basically being left in limbo because by next Wednesday the building will be closed. We are very annoyed and upset at how Aperee Living is treating us,’ said Patricia.
‘An outside HR firm met with us on Monday to discuss what will happen but we have received nothing yet. It’s also very upsetting to see residents move out and it’s all been so rushed.’
With 41 staff still at the 68-bed facility, Patricia said they can’t find new jobs as they are still contracted to work there until October 24th.
‘We want our paperwork signed, so we can walk away with some of our dignity.’
Fine Gael Senator Tim Lombard said he has arranged a meeting between a barrister and staff for next Monday, if the staff have not received their redundancy entitlements by then.
‘I met with staff last Thursday and they have real concerns about their entitlements and the company need to step up and sort this,’ said Sen Lombard.
He also called for a root and branch review of all facilities under the Aperee Living umbrella, while Cork South West Independent TD Michael Collins criticised Aperee Living for not engaging with their staff. Aperee Living was asked for a comment.
