Fine Gael will host a fundraising BBQ in aid of Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment (CHASE).

WITH only weeks left to raise funds for a court challenge to the plans for a large-scale incinerator in Ringaskiddy, Fine Gael will host a fundraising BBQ in aid of Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment (CHASE).

It will take place on June 29th at 7pm at the Oar Bar, Crosshaven and all are welcome.

CHASE must raise between €150,000 and €200,000 to cover all legal costs associated with pursuing a judicial review of the 240,000 tonne per annum Indaver incinerator approved by An Bord Pleanala for Ringaskiddy.

The campaign to date has raised €62,000 of the €150,000 so there is still significant funding and support required before the deadline of July 19th when a request must be lodged in order to proceed with the judicial action.

Mary O’Leary of CHASE said: ‘We need to have €100,000 at least in the kitty before we can go forward and take this through the courts, where the decision of An Bord Pleanala can be reviewed and overturned.’ Tánaiste and Cork South Central TD Simon Coveney said: ‘This is a really important issue for the community here, the Cork region and indeed it is a wider environment issue. The incinerator would have a huge impact on Cork Harbour, the development of which I have been committed to during my political life through various portfolios, including Minister for the Food & Marine, and Defence Minister and remind strongly committed to.’

The Fundraiser BBQ costs €20 entry, with live music and entertainment provided.  Alternatively funds can be donated at https://ie.gofundme.com/no-incinerator-in-cork-harbour
