STRICTLY O’Donovan Rossas proved a huge success at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen with Seán Carmody and Aisling Kearney emerging as the winners.
The audience had eagerly awaited the much-anticipated sold-out show for weeks and the dancers delivered in style, with their fancy footwork, lifts and unique dance routines – with plently of incredible moves thrown in for good measure!
The entertainment provided by the 30 dancers was well received by the capacity crowd. The committee was delighted with this year’s inaugural event and Michael Scannell, on behalf of the O’Donovan Rossa boys’ and girls’ underage GAA clubs, thanked the dancers for their commitment, the sponsors, local businesses who contributed and all who attended and helped in anyway.
Winners Seán and Aisling impressed both the judges and the audience with their swing to ‘Pencil Full of Lead.’ Second place went to Eoin O’Donovan and Sharon Collins. There was a joint third – Noel Collins & Aoife O’Brien and Seán Crowley & Gráinne Collins.
The winning duo was presented with Waterford Crystal vases and cash prizes and treated the audience to a reprise of the winning performance. The judging panel was made up of Marion Creedon Hegarty, image consultant and businesswoman; Cara Hegarty, professional dancer, and Ryan Price, O’Donovan Rossa and Cork senior goalkeeper. Noel Kearney, a former chairperson of the club, very ably compered the show.
The dancing isn’t finished just yet. Due to popular demand, a second show will take place Friday, January 6th, 2017. A few more surprises are promised for the next show.
