WEST Cork lottery players were on a Winning Streak last weekend with windfalls for Castletownbere and Crosshaven.
Anne Maverley from Crosshaven won herself a cool €34,000 on the National Lottery gameshow on RTÉ One.
That was €1,000 more than her sister who won €33,000 more than five years ago. Anne also made an appearance on Telly Bingo on RTÉ last January by phone where she took part in the phone risk game – which landed her €5,000 in cash.
Anne is married to Martin and the couple celebrated 30 years of marriage in June. The couple have two daughters in their twenties, Aisling and Eimear, who were cheering their mum on from the RTÉ studio audience last Saturday.
Anne has no plans, as of yet, for the winnings from the show, but says she will certainly enjoy the win with her family.
Meanwhile, Philip O’Neill, originally from Castletownbere, but living in Howth in Dublin for 57 years, won €30,000.
Fisherman Philip has been married to Marie for 53 years and they have three adult children: Jeanette, Carmel and Shane.
Carmel missed the show as she was going on holidays to Spain with her own daughter Orla.
Shane did the opposite – he lives in Basel, Switzerland and flew in with his two children (Sammy and Joshua) and wife especially to cheer his dad on. Philip has seven grandchildren, aged between 11 and 26.
Philip is retired but worked as a fisherman all his life on trawlers in the seas all around Ireland.
These days he doesn’t really fish that much, except when he is back in Castletownbere spending time with the relatives.
With his winnings from the show he is going to treat his family, but first and foremost he wants to take Marie on a holiday to New York.
