As with everything in life, goodness and wellbeing shines through from the inside out, and this is particularly applicable during the cold winter months. In order to keep your face, lips, hands and body in ship shape throughout the winter season, it’s important to take measures now to ensure your products and practises are working especially hard for your delicate skin.
Here are some top tips to keep in mind for the cold months ahead…
Wear sunscreen
Ok, so your nose might feel ready to snap off thanks to the bitter November wind hitting you in the face on your stroll to work, but if the sun is showing then your skin is at risk.
From your face to your nose – and even your ears – it is imperative to ensure you use a strong factor, either contained in your make-up or in a regular sun block, to protect your delicate skin.
Using it during the winter time is also a great way to use up leftover sunscreen from the summer before it goes out of date. Waste not, want not as they say!
Lip service
Dried, chapped lips is not a good look and it can also be a sore and irritating issue. Invest in a good quality lip balm for the winter season and apply regularly to help your lips fight the harsh elements. My personal go-to lip must-have is the cheap and cheerful Carmex lip balm tube, which always works a treat and coming in at around €4 in pharmacies, is a wintertime steal.
Pamper those pins
While the mere idea of bare legs during winter would send chills up the spine, it’s important to maintain a regular skincare regime so that your pins will be preened to perfection in case you dare to bare. Wearing heavy tights and thick socks under boots on a daily basis can dry out the skin and cause flakiness. Regular exfoliation and moisturising will not only aid circulation and help to reduce cellulite, but will also keep your skin soft and supple and ready for that stunning party dress you’ve been waiting to debut.
A helping hand
Stinging, raw hands can feel sore and uncomfortable, especially when regular washing comes into the equation, so it’s important to nip the issue of dry hands in the bud with a hydrating, moisturising cream. Apply a lotion, such as the Shea Butter Hand Cream from L’Occitaine, to the hands three or four times a day for a hydrating boost and ensure to wear gloves when facing the elements on those particularly cold days.
Splish splash
It may be an obvious one, but water intake is particularly important during the winter months. Not only does it hydrate the skin – an important thing to keep in mind when the drying effect of both the cold weather and indoor central heating takes its toll – but it also flushes impurities from the skin and reduces bloating; a necessity with the calendar filling up with festive parties.
