The South West Rowing Championship awards night was held last weekend at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery. Castletownbere Rowing Club’s U12 girls and boys both finished top of their groups and received their medals and cups. Castletownbere also won club of the year.

Bantry Tidy Towns expressed thanks to the Bantry Care for the Aged Charity Shop on Main Street for their very generous donation of €3,000. They have been great supporters of Bantry Tidy Towns over the years and give a lot back to the community. At the Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle function at the Mariner in Bantry, to present the proceeds of the cycle to local charities and community organisations were (front, from left): Robert Wilmot (Bandon Hyperbaric Oxygen Centre), Sinéad Keohane (Cancer Connect), Cormac Daly (Wild Atlantic Mizen Cycle), Rory O’Callaghan (Bantry Community Sports Hub) and Noel O’Mahony (Bantry Tidy Towns). The organisations to benefit from the proceeds of the last two cycles, amounting to €50,000, were, the Bandon Hyperbaric Oxygen Centre, Bantry Development and Tourism Association, West Cork Rapid Response, Bantry Tidy Towns, Cancer Connect and the Bantry Community Sports Hub. Five local ladies formed part of a national team of 37 walkers that went on a charity walk to Malaga in mid-September. The national team raised €131,500 for Cystic Fibrosis this year of which a staggering €15,500 was raised by the five ladies from West Cork. The walkers expressed thanks to everyone for their generosity but in particular to the Schull Harbour Hotel who has shown incredible support by hosting raffles, pub quizzes and coffee mornings.
