CORK Opera House have already announced the highlights of their 2020 season which includes the return of the Cork Proms during the Cork Midsummer Festival.
Opera House CEO, Eibhlín Gleeson said: ‘This year’s inaugural Cork Proms was a resounding success and the people of Cork really came out in their droves to support it. The Proms is a celebration of Cork as a musical city, gathering the finest musicians and singers from our county and beyond. We are so excited to bring this programme to Cork audiences again next year.’
At the end of July, the venue will host its summer show - the firm family favourite, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This all-time classic will include the best local, national and international talent in musical theatre.
Right Here Right Now will be presented by the venue and Coughlan’s Live in February and the festival is a celebration of the vibrant and eclectic music scene in Cork.
This year, Mick Flannery and Valerie June will join the Opera House Concert Orchestra for the festival opening on Saturday, the 22nd of February followed by a Traditional and Folk Music themed evening on Sunday, the 23rd of February. With plenty more announcements in the pipeline, this promises to be an unmissable weekend of music celebrating the city’s array of talented artists.
There’s also an emphasis on bringing opera home to Cork and they continue to build on their programme with their 2020 Opera Concert Series.
Eibhlín explained: ‘The concert series has grown annually and 2019 has definitely been our biggest year yet. Over the last four years, we’ve showcased 12 operas in concert format. This series is successful because of the passion the people of this region has for opera, teamed with an extraordinary group of talented artists presenting the work.’
