THE Schull Agricultural Show will bring large crowds to the Showgrounds on Sunday, July 28th, with events for all the family.

The event is a tradition which is a favourite in the local community with many visitors to West Cork annually. The day is organised with a focus on being a family fun day out, showcasing the very best of West Cork rural life.

Schull Country Market will be relocating to the show field for one day only and boasts some of West Cork’s finest artisan producers.

Some of the kids activities include face painting, cow milking, pin the tail on the donkey, music, and dance with Mike Ronan.

Schull show will host Jer’s mobile pet farm, with children able to meet and interact with some of the many animals.

This year, the Schull Agricultural Show brings a Best Dressed competition consisting of five categories; Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Gent, Best Dressed Boy, Best Dressed Girl and the Most Appropriately Dressed for Country Life. This competition has been sponsored by resident clothing shop in Schull village Barnetts, run by Miriam and Eddie Pyburn.

The horse section of the show consists of 43 classes, the main event of the day being the class 1. Class 1 is the Registered Irish Draught Mare with a prize fund of €2,000 and Horse Sport Ireland has sponsored. This category is closely followed by one of our most loved events on the day, the working hunter.

The dog show begins at 2.30pm with entries from 12pm-2.30 pm. A new class for this year is Best Dressed Dog, which is sure to attract all our fabulously classy, sassy and smart dogs!

A vintage run will take place on the day. Departing from Schull Garda Barracks at 12pm. The vintage vehicles will be escorted to the show field where they will then remain on display for the duration of the show.

There is a full schedule of indoor activities, with new classes added. The show has incorporated today’s global need for sustainability with exhibit piece of clothing made from recycled product for both adult and children’s sections.

With Galway Races fast approaching and preparations underway there is also a ‘creative hat display suitable for Galway Races’.

Continuing on to the revamped indoor section, there is poetry, Lego, handwriting, and calligraphy, photography, baking, art and craftwork and for those senior and junior cycle students we have woodwork and metal competitions.

A free shuttle bus service will be in operation on the day. This will commence at 11.30am from Schull Harbour Hotel and will continue until 5.30pm, running every 10 to 15 mins.

It is hoped that, yet another big attendance will take place at Schull Agricultural Show on Sunday July 28th for what promises to be one of the most enjoyable days of the year in the village.
