Inchydoney West Beach is a sandy beach situated on the south-facing coast, nestled at the northeastern edge of Clonakilty Bay. It is bordered by picturesque sand dunes and is exposed to varying weather conditions, often experiencing rough conditions. To the west of the beach, there's a channel that drains into a tidal lagoon, alongside sand flats recognized as Muckruss Strand.

This beach, part of the Clonakilty Bay Special Area of Conservation (SAC) with site code 000091, is also a proposed Natural Heritage Area (NHA). The SAC encompasses the Muckruss Strand and a significant portion of the adjacent Cloheen Strand. Furthermore, this same area is designated as Clonakilty Bay Special Protection Area (SPA) with site code 004081. Inchydoney Beach's bathing section spans approximately 450 meters in length, covering an area of about 0.135 square kilometres. The beach boasts a gently sloping, sandy terrain, making it an inviting destination for beachgoers.
