On the Beara peninsula between Slieve Mickish Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean visit Allihies Copper Mine Museum with onsite Café and Gallery.
In 1812, the discovery of copper deposits led to 6 productive mines operating in Allihies.
It can't have been easy for the miners descending underground away from the wild, open Beara views!
The Museum is based in a renovated Methodist church built for the Cornish miners who relocated here bringing their knowledge and engineering skills to Allihies.
Discover the story of copper mining from the Bronze age to the 1960's using multimedia, artefacts, models and a small library. The Museum caters for the semi-curious to the major enthusiast and all ages.
The Café offers a full lunch menu with indoors and outdoors seating and a tranquil, sensory garden.
The Museum is open from Easter to October - 10am to 5 pm.
From November to March please contact us to arrange a visit.
The Café opens 10 to 5 pm.
