A DUNMANWAY butcher who served the local community for the past 55 years said they had closed the shop’s door for the very last time with ‘heavy hearts’.
Pat Joe Collins closed the doors of his family butcher shop for the last time last Saturday and said the decision to close the business was not made lightly.
Pat Joe, who ran Collins Bros Family Butchers, made the announcement online last week, much to the surprise of his customers.
‘After over 55 wonderful years of serving our community here in Dunmanway and far beyond, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Collins Bros Butchers on Saturday January 11th,’ he posted.
‘This decision was not made lightly and although it comes with great sadness, it also come with a great sense of gratitude for the many people who have been part of our journey.’
Pat Joe thanked his valued customers for their ‘trust and loyalty’ and said they have been the backbone of his businesses.
‘We are truly honoured to have been part of your families meals, celebrations and traditions. To our dedicated suppliers, we appreciated your support in helping us provide the highest quality products.’
He also thanked his incredible employees past and present.
‘Thank you for your hard work, commitment, and the passion you brought to this shop every day. You have been the heart and soul of the businesses.
‘Though this chapter is closing, the memories we’ve made together will live on. Thank you for 55 amazing years.’
Local Fianna Fáil Cllr Deirdre Kelly said Collins Bros Butchers has been an institution in the town and that it would always be remembered. She also wished the Collins family all the best.
