Major developments in Cork senior football managerial hunt
EXCLUSIVE BY KIERAN McCARTHY
JOHN Cleary has confirmed to The Southern Star on Friday night that he will NOT be the next Cork senior football manager.
Despite recent reports suggesting that the Castlehaven man will take charge of the Rebel footballers for 2016 and that he will be unveiled as manager at the next county board meeting on Tuesday night, Cleary has exclusively confirmed to The Southern Star that he is not in the frame for the vacant position.
This news will be a hammer-blow to Cork as Cleary was the number one choice, and the standout candidate, to succeed Brian Cuthbert.
Senior Cork footballers have approached Cleary in an attempt to persuade him to take the reins, but he has opted against it.
The Southern Star brought readers the exclusive news two weeks ago (see below) that former Cork U21 manager Cleary had withdrawn from the managerial race, and while developments since saw him heavily linked with the role, he has, tonight, confirmed that he is out of the running, again citing time commitments as one of the major reasons.
